So this morning, since the weather was la-la-lovely out, I felt like baking a cake (surprised?). I feel like this is the first day off in a while where I can just do whatever I want! It’s great. I missed this. I had a leisurely breakfast on the deck with the white cat and the black dog, then started baking! I’ll admit I haven’t been blogging in a while…I got into Doctor Who and that has accidentally taken up a lot of my time. Also this damn weather! I just want to be outside all the time.
Today I made just a cute, small little 4″ cake. Wasn’t in the mood for a big cake!
And when I accidentally frigged up masking it, I decided to try something I haven’t done yet. Ombre! It was a semi-failed attempt as you can see lol. All my colours just sort of blend together in some spots, but I blame that on my lack of preparation and having to change ideas last minute. Next time I’ll do it right and we’ll see how it goes π This cake makes me feel beachy, and makes me want to go to the beach really badly. It almost looks like when you’re on the beach, and you look out into the horizon and you can see how the colour of the water goes from light to super dark (out in the terrifying mystery depths). Now why did I chose blue? Two reasons. Number one: I love for some reason when vanilla things have blue icing, it makes me feel cute and young and girly. Number two: the tardis. I’M SO LAME I KNOW BUT I JUST CAN’T HELP IT. I love Doctor Who now.
This cake is just my classic white cake, except I baked it on a half-sheetpan instead of in cake pans, since I didn’t have any 4″ pans. I just used a 4″ cookie tin to cut the rounds out hahaha. I need to start collecting proper baking supplies…
I covered and filled it with a swiss meringue buttercream, and in between the layers are some tart cherries. I’ll post an inside picture when I cut into it π
AAAHHHH TARDIS BLUE!!!!
